I.N. Smith, 88, of Hemphill passed away Saturday morning at the Silsbee Oaks Health Care in Silsbee, TX. I.N. Was born in El Vista, TX to Welmon and Mary Montie Smith. I.N. was a U.S. Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Chevron (Pure Oil) after 27 years of service. He then moved from Nederland to Hemphill where he lived for 21 years. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Nederland Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemphill. TX.
Mr. Smith is survived by three sons: Edward Lee Smith of Buna, Ronald Gene Smith of Alpine, TX, and Gordon Lynn Smith of the Houston area, his brother Welmon Smith, Jr. of Vancouver, WA and his sister Ena Faye Slusher of Louisiana. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Russell Lee Smith, Elizabeth Ann Hillquist, Stephanie Ann Bush, Scott A. Smith and Shirley Smith, four great grandchildren; Lauren Cade, Alyssa Didier, Kale Bush and Jacob Moss.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Belle Smith, two sisters, Eugenia and Irene and two brothers, George and James C. Smith.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 28, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery, Hwy 87 South, Hemphill, TX.
