Benita Wilkerson, 56, of San Augustine, Texas passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 in San Augustine, Texas.

Our beloved Benita was born December 18, 1965 to Ben and Rozella Wilkerson in Hemphill, Texas.  Her family moved to Port Arthur when she was five years old.  She grew up there and attended DeQueen Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Lincoln High School were she was THE drum major and a twirler.  She later attended Prairie View A&M University.

Benita was exciting and a firecracker.  She was the true definition of a middle child.  Although she grew up in Texas, she lived a nice portion of her life in Detroit, Michigan where she raised her children, worked made friend and live a life with her ex-husband, Jeffrey Brian Crawford, Sr., who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her father, Ben Wilkerson.

She leaves to mourn, her mother, Rozella Wilkerson of Hemphill; sons, Tony Wayne Hall, Jr. and Jeffrey Brian Crawford, Jr.; daughters, Lasashia Rose Wilkerson, Amber Marie Moore and husband, Nicholas, Ashley Marie Crawford and Angela Michelle Crawford; sisters, Vermykia Proctor and husband, Charles, and Myshekia Wilkerson; and 21 grandchildren, Emani, Javarris, D'Adrian, AnJayia, Elijah, ReKaden, C'Liyah, ReYanna, Andreius, TyKaden, Amrie, Nichayah, Noah, Derrick, Jr., Tariq, Tremaine, DaJuan, Nicholas, Jr., DaJarren, LaNya, and Aspeion.

She is also survived by a special aunt, Hivie G. McCowan and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Douglas Hamilton serving as Master of Ceremonies and Bro. Frank Hamilton officiating.

Burial will follow services at Macedonia Cemetery in Hemphill with Malik Wilkerson, Anthony Jones, DeWayne Jackson, Jason Deloatch, Charles Proctor, Gary Hunt, Tony Hall and Jeffrey Crawford, Jr. serving as pallbearers.
