Obituary

William Wilson (Bill) Leach came into this world on
September 9, 1949. He was born into the family of
James H. Leach and Jane Wilson Leach (his proud
parents) in the infamous south Texas border town of
Laredo! No hablo espanol! Bill had three siblings, an
older brother (Jim), a twin sister (Katherine), and a
younger brother (Mick). As a youngster Bill seemed born
with an insatiable curiosity for the unknown, the new,
the different, the amazing, and the beautiful. Bill was a
good student in his younger days, especially excelling in
the sciences. As a junior scientist he was invited to
attend the National Science Fair in California bringing
home several awards for his high school science team.
Also a great appreciation for the outdoors and
environmental sciences started his scouting career,
where he earned the Eagle Scout rank, and took his skills
to Philmont Scout Ranch to work on the staff for 10
glorious summers.

Concurrently and after high school his love for chemistry
and physics flourished, leading him to the University of
Houston for Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Teaching
seemed to be the best way to share his love for the
sciences, so after graduation Bill started working at Lone
Star College in Kingwood, Texas.

He started a Chemistry curriculum for the college, which led to teaching
chemistry, physics, and math classes. Finally a new
passion for astronomy developed into more teaching,
community programs, and extensive field trips. Bill loved
the stars and showed off his 10 foot telescope on many
outings. He also loved mountain climbing, skydiving,
homemade ice cream, fast cars (Polaris Slingshot), loud
music (Pink Floyd), and family vacations. Most definitely
his greatest joy was planning the family reunions in
Surfside Beach, Texas. Without hesitation Bill threw
himself into hosting the events and unselfishly meeting
the needs of others. He was the most amazing, unique,
inspiring, intelligent, and interesting cousin, uncle, friend,
and brother!

Our Bill left us late one evening on Wednesday, October
28, 2020, and passed on to heaven where he is in a much
better place now with our God almighty! Rest in peace
brave soul! May the angels guide you home!
God bless you Bill! We love you!
