Doris Woods Smith, 92, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away at her residence on October 23, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1934 in Sabine County, Texas to Bartie Thomas Woods and Minnie Ardelia Carrico Woods.

Rooted in Sabine County from the beginning of her life, Doris carried with her the ties of family and a place that shaped her story. She will be remembered with love by those who knew her and by the family whose lives were closely bound with hers.

Doris was the longtime owner/operator of Lane's in Hemphill.  Her warm smile and wonderful personality welcomed everyone who walked through the door, and she made each person feel special.  She enjoyed going out on the lake, fishing and visiting with her many friends.  She loved vacationing, with her favorite things to do being, cruising and going to the beach.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Smith of Hemphill and Whitney Smith of DeRidder, Louisiana. She is also survived by her brother, Elton Woods of Lufkin, and Bartie Thomas “Tinker” Woods and his wife, Delores, of Atlanta, Georgia; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In the hearts of those she leaves behind, her memory will remain a lasting and cherished presence.

Doris was preceded in death by her son, Wincey Lane Smith; her parents, Bartie and Minnie Woods; her brothers, Elray Woods and Mike Woods; and her sisters, Eunice Butler, Atrell Sheffield, Imogene Whitton, Charlcie Carter and Billy "Cooter" Nixon.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, in Hemphill Cemetery, South Texas Street, Hemphill, Texas, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.
