Dorris Aleen Welch, 100, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill.

Mrs. Welch was born November 8, 1920 in Nacogdoches to Johnny Olive Westmoreland and Florence McBee Westmoreland.  She had attended Stephen F. Austin State University and earned her Bachelor's degree.  She taught school during World War II and for many years thereafter.  She had resided in Nederland before moving to Sabine County in 1974 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hemphill.

Mrs. Welch is survived by her son, Steven Welch and wife, Beth, of Hemphill; daughter, Sonya Spooner and husband, Doug, of Beaumont; brother, Don Westmoreland of Buna; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 in Isaac Lowe Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Richardson officiating.
