George "Skipper"
Burnice Werth
Oct 13, 1949 — Nov 14, 2020
Milam
George "Skipper" Burnice Werth, 71, of Milam, Texas passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his residence.
Skipper was born in Port Arthur, Texas on October 13, 1949 to parents, Bobby Werth and Genoa Hoffpauir. He worked as a loss control professional for rural electric co-ops.
Skipper was a helper. Whether you needed help raising a roof, felling a tree or just a pint of moonshine. He'd show up just in time, wearing his signature flip-flops and shorts, ready to work. He loved to have fun, and he spent 10 years in Colorado – hiking, camping, skiing and exploring. He enjoyed sharing the beauty of the mountains with his friends and family.
He grew up fishing Toledo Bend with his dad and grandpa, and he was fortunate to get to spend the last 14 years at the lake, sharing fishing, food and laughs with the community he loved.
To know Skipper was to love him. He had a way of giving his undivided attention to whomever he was with and making them feel special. He was a willing listener and a deep thinker. He could catch fish, play practical jokes and ponder the meaning of life over a cold beer all in the same day. He embraced life; whether sharing his hard-won wisdom, enveloping you in a warm, sweet smelling embrace, laughing or working, he did it all with his whole heart.
You can be sure he's found a front porch in heaven, cigar in one hand, beer in the other, waiting for you to arrive, so he can say, "Get you some."
Skipper is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Merling and husband, Brian of Douglasville, GA, Stacey Morrow and partner, Chris Reeves of Fort Collins, CO, Bobbie Werth and partner, Jovan Batiste of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Colin, Scott, Brianna, Adam and Katie Merling, Michaela Turner, Boddhi and Tenzin Morrow, Kadence Werth-Batiste; other family including siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home.
