Jack Tanner Sommerfield, age 27, of Dallas Texas, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
Jack Tanner Sommerfield was born in Dallas Texas, on February 2, 1995, to Blake B. Sommerfield and Dana Hyden Sommerfield.
Jack was full of life and knew exactly what he wanted and how he wanted it from a very young age. Jack's desire for life to have order and things to have their place began when he was a young boy. From insisting the lines on his socks were exactly straight to everything in his bedroom having its place, Jack knew what he wanted and did what it took to achieve it. Jack's methodical, steady, consistent, and determined ways would serve him well in his life and he would become a wonderful example of a life well lived to all who knew and loved him.
Jack attended elementary and middle school at Zion Lutheran School in Dallas, Texas. Jack's foundation of learning and deep spiritual roots were planted at Zion Lutheran School and Church where he was confirmed in the Lutheran church at age 12, and was a faithful life time church member. Over the years, Jack's pastor, teachers, faculty and fellow church members invested in his life. His time at Zion Lutheran School and Church helped mold him into the young man he became.
During his early years, Jack found a love for the sport of baseball and dreamt of playing "the game" as long as possible. Jack played many seasons of Little League Baseball and Select Baseball. Ball bags, stinky uniforms, and at times his team mates all in tow, his number one fan, his mom, did what it took to help Jack grow and foster his love for "the game". Because of his mom's hard work and dedication, Jack grew in strength, grit and determination on and off the baseball field. Many coaches invested their time and their hearts into Jack's life as an athlete and young man and impacted him for years to come.
Jack attended hight school at Dallas Lutheran High School. Jack was an upstanding and hard working student. Jack was a friend to all, even those who might have been considered by the rest of the school as different. Jack continued to work hard and earned the position of team catcher on the Dallas Lutheran Baseball team. Jack worked hard at being the best catcher he could be. Jack's coaches saw the best in him and helped him grow in his ability to play "the game". Jack graduated high school in May of 2013.
Jack began his college career at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas and he studied agriculture. After completing two years at Navarro College, he transferred to Louisiana State University in Baton Rogue for one semester. Jack then transferred to Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where he studied Construction Management. In Jack's own words, "I found my people" at Tarleton State. Jack's love of "the game" continued and he became a team member of the Tarleton State Texans Baseball Team 29, in 2017, where he earned his position on the team and the respect of his coaches and team mates. During the summers of 2016 and 2017, Jack was an intern at MYCON General Contractors, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. Jack very much enjoyed his college days. Jack worked hard to maintain good grades, but his favorite part was making sure he and everyone around him always had a good time. Jack graduated with a bachelors degree in Construction Management in May 2018. His closest family and friends joined him in celebrating his accomplishment.
After graduating college, Jack began his full time career in construction management in 2018, at MYCON as a project engineer. Throughout his career at MYCON, he worked on various project types, including office (Spring Creek Medical Office Building), religious (Preston Trail Phase 2 and Hillside Community Church), industrial (DMO Warehouse and Urban District 30), retail (Tom Thumb Heath Village), and self storage (U-Haul Moving and Storage). In December 2019, Jack earned a promotion to senior project manager and in June 2021 he was promoted to assistant project manager. In October 2021, he transitioned to the estimating team; his field experience was valuable. Jack's drive for personal and professional development led him to a leadership role in MYCON's internship program-recruiting and mentoring students for the program that introduced him to the firm
Jack had a work ethic that would not quit. Even when it was well past "quitting time" you could count on Jack completing what he started and to always follow through on his commitment. Before Jack's passing, MYCON established a scholarship fund in Jack's
honor and memory at Tarleton State University.
To know Jack was to know his family. Jack loved his family greatly, and he made it easy for them to love him greatly in return. From the time he was born, he was the light of his mom's life, his dad's pride and joy, and his big sister's best friend. Jack kept his mom on her toes because he knew no fear nor quit. Jack took pride in what mattered the most, his faith in God, his family and friends, and being the best he could be at work and play. Jack had a contagious laugh and a smile that would light up every room he walked into and every heart that knew him. Jack stood tall and firm in his convictions and he did not waiver.
