Obituary

Johnny Paul Wallace passed away on September 9, 2025, in Hemphill, Texas, at the age of 71. A lifelong resident of Sabine County, he was born on January 23, 1954, in San Augustine, Texas to Paul Wallace and Lodies Mae Dickerson Wallace and remained deeply rooted in the community that shaped his life.

Johnny Paul graduated from West Sabine High School with the Class of 1973. He went on to build a career as a skilled welder, working for many years with Temple-Inland and Merle Greer Construction.

Beyond his professional life, Johnny Paul found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He loved to fish and dance—two passions that brought him happiness and camaraderie throughout his life. In recent years, he could often be found on the back porch of Hemphill Care Center playing 42 with friends or rolling cigarettes for fellow residents who needed a hand. These small acts of kindness reflected his generous spirit and easygoing nature.

Johnny Paul is survived by his daughter, Beverly Jones and her husband, Jason, of San Augustine; grandchildren, Tyler Meeks and wife, Alexa, and Hunter Meeks; and great-grandchildren, LouKaisee Meeks, Brance Meeks and Myla Meeks; uncles I.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lodies Mae Wallace; grandparents, Ebb and Bertie Dickerson and J.L. and Emma Palmer Wallace; aunt, Mary Forse and uncle, Lynn Dickerson.
