Omega "Doodle"
Deloris Johnson
Mar 29, 1940 — Oct 30, 2025
Hemphill
Omega Delores Garrison Johnson went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2025, while surrounded by her family. Dee, or Doodle, as she was fondly known, was born in Wooster, Texas on March 29,1940 to Hattie Evelyn Ashley and Nick Carter Garrison. Grandmother Ashley helped with the home delivery.
Dee grew up all around the Gulf Coast as the family moved from Channelview to LaPorte and settled in Baytown, TX. At the age of 10, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1958 and then went on to St. Mary's Nursing school in Galveston. The next big milestone was marrying Alton Clyde Johnson, and they lived in Alta Loma, TX (now Santa Fe) and raised two sons, Clyde Thomas Johnson (Chubby) and Frank Henri Johnson (Stevie). FFA was a big part of their lives.
An opportunity came to buy Six Mile Marina on Toledo Bend, so the family moved to East Texas. For 20 years, Doodle gave the fishing report and became a fixture in the community and loved by all who crossed her path. Many generations continued to drop by to see her over the years.
Doodle and Clyde enjoyed the outdoors on a motorcycle especially to Canada. They hunted and fished many lakes. She also traveled to Germany and Switzerland with her sisters and Hattie. Then she finally got the chance to design and build the birdhouse overlooking the lake that became her home for the rest of her life.
Dee was talented in so many ways. She had the greenest thumb and her yard flourished with her constant care. The hummingbirds loved her home, and she could capture the beautiful nature that God created with her paint brush. Sister Nickey called her "the spirit in the garden". She loved the outdoors and fishing but could also cook and bake and was the family dressmaker as a young girl.
Music was always playing in her home. Engelbert Humperdink and Elvis were her favorites. She even went to one of the first Elvis concerts in Houston.
Dee loved her family and friends. She was the best big sister to Nickey and Dana protectively calling them daily. She took time for everyone and never judged or assumed. She was welcoming to all and never a stranger met. Never forgot a birthday. "I am so blessed, even in the hard times", she would say. Dee was amazed at how God's love was shown in so many ways. She enjoyed studying the Bible. It filled a lot of her life during her last years. Of course she kept up with the news with strong opinions!
Her nursing skills helped many throughout her life and she was helped by many special friends.
Dee was a big supporter of the local fire department. She and Clyde helped develop the volunteer fire department in the Six Mile community.
Dee is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Clyde; her parents, Hat and Nick and her son, Chubby.
Loved ones left behind are her son Steve Johnson and wife, Melanie; grandson, Nick Johnson and wife, Brooke; grandsons, Jessie Johnson, Cody Johnson and Kaleb Gaddis; granddaughters, Audrey Johnson Morris and husband, James, and granddaughter Kayla Johnson; great grandchildren, Zachary Johnson, Jasmine Johnson and Serena Johnson; sisters, Dana Taylor and husband, Travis, and Nickey Dittman, nephew, Fred C. Dittman III and wife, Angela; and niece, Nikol Dittman.
A celebration of life will be held March 28, 2026, at her home.
Dee loved flowers but in lieu of, please donate to the 6-mile Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 1216, Hemphill, TX 75948 or your favorite Bible ministry in her honor.
Deuteronomy 33:25 "As thy days, so shall thy strength be". She held this promise daily and lived fully until she died.
The family would like to extend their gratitude, love, and respect to all her many friends and neighbors in and around the community of Six Mile.
