Yvonne Marie Ross, mother to Shirley, Velma and Jessie, passed away on October 18th, 2024, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her final moments were spent peacefully at the Freedom House, Blue Skies of Texas, in San Antonio Texas, surrounded by family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Her family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing.

Yvonne was born on 20 February 1938, in Washington, D.C. to Sponcella and Preston Carpenter. She was the oldest of sixteen children. Ten boys and 6 girls; in order, Yvonne, Lois, Preston Jr, Jackie, Doris, Lee, Jimmy, Charlie, Tommy, Jeffrey, Patsy, Carolannn, Donnie, Michael, Ricky and Dwayne.

Bowling AFB is where she met her future, Air Force husband, Riley E. Ross, (Wimp).  This began her career as a military wife. During their 20 years with the Air Force they traveled to many stateside bases, finally retiring in Kilgore, Texas. She loved going to the ceramic shop, playing bingo and dancing.

She is survived by her children, eight brothers and four sisters, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loves each and every one.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Sponcella and Preston Carpenter, husband, Riley E. Ross, son-in-law, Earl Stevenson, brother-in-law, J.D. Herndon, brothers, Jackie Carpenter, Dewayne Carpenter and sister Lois Carpenter.

Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to service.

Graveside services will be held at Lott Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Riley E. Ross.
